Friends With Benefits – Is It Really Worth It?
*THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS PAID PROMOTION*
Recently we were requested to do an article that analyzes the relationships that stem from friends with benefits. In this day and age, many people believe that chivalry is dead. Furthermore, many people blame this on lack of commitment, the speed of communication and many other variables. However, is friends with benefits really a bad thing? Could it not be the way forward. Look, I’m no clinical psychologist or expert on relationships myself. But haven’t some of the longest lasting relationships come from friends with benefits? Regardless, I honestly believe the quality of any relationship comes down to one quote and perfectly summarised by comedian, Bill Burr;
“Realize that sleeping on a futon when you’re 30 is not the worst thing. You know what’s worse, sleeping in a king bed next to a wife you’re not really in love with but for some reason, you married, and you got a couple kids, and you got a job you hate. You’ll be laying there fantasizing about sleeping on a futon. There’s no risk when you go after a dream. There’s a tremendous amount to risk to playing it safe.”
Often I find people criticising friends with benefits relationships are the ones eager for a relationship. Despite the stigma, I honestly believe friends with benefits gives you more time to get to know one another. Rushing things is disastrous and eventually, you’ll find out that you’re simply not compatible with one another. Or even worse, you’re both in too deep that you’re afraid to break it off. Hence, why I am here today to break barriers. To single handly stop the negative stigma and criticism.
Open Minded Scepticism – A New Perspective
Friends with benefits aren’t about sleazy people sleeping around. On the contrary, it’s just how people with commitment issues deal with it. And what’s wrong with that? These people are taking their time to find what’s right. If anything you should be mimicking how they handle and develop intimate relationships. There’s no pressure for you to be a saint while at the same time you both take things slow and get to know each without anything serious. If anything that sounds like a win/win to me. Unfortunately, we’re all human. On the surface, this seems like a pretty sweet deal however things don’t seem to go that and eventually one party ends up always wanting more. From this, things can go one or two ways. As I’m sure you’re aware.
